With lots of fries and extensive use of ghee, Indian food is not particularly known for being healthy. But there are some dishes that stand contrary to this popular belief. Here are nutritious and delicious foods with masala twist  from different regions of the country that you can add to your healthy meal plan.

Nettle soup

Sisnu (nettle leaves), is widely used in the Sikkim, Himalayas. The most common dish using the plant is called sisnu ko raas. This soup is made without adding oil simply boil the leaves and filling garlic at the end. The soup is delicious as it is, but if you want to pack in more flavors you can add vegetables and meat as well. 

Raita

A side dish with yogurt, consumed with a number of Indian dishes, including Parathas, Kababs, and Biryani. It not only helps to neutralize strong flavors and spicy Indian dishes, but is also rich in healthy nutrients. 

Makhana

If you are looking for healthy Indian cuisine, look no further than the humble nut Makhana. Because of the low in fat, cholesterol, and sodium, it is a very healthy snack. The seeds are most often used to treat kidney disease. 

Daliya

Daliya is a dish popular for breakfast, most of the time ate in the northern states of India. For someone trying to keep their weight under control, a bowl of Daliya made a perfect breakfast option.

Upma

Another choice of healthy breakfast is upma, a dish common in Southern India. The slurry is usually made from semolina dry roasted, which contains many healthy nutrients such as iron and vitamin B complex.
