Cassia didymobotrya syn. Senna didymobotrya is a shrub which is native to Eastern Central Africa. It is often grown for its yellow ornamental flowers which appear over a long period in warm climates.
This plant should be grown indoors, or in frost-free climates. (I.e. USDA zones 10+). However, it has beeen reported to withstand brief frosts USDA zones 9b (26°F, -3°C) and even in USDA zones 9a (21°F, -6°C). In this latter case however, the plant will be frozen to the ground, and may resprout from the roots.
Leaves are evergreen and are 4-20 in (10-50 cm) long. They are pinnate with up to 30+ elliptic to oval leaflets.
This plant usually blooms from late spring to early fall. The golden-yellow flowers, which are about 1-2 in (2-5 cm) wide, are grouped in 4-8 in (10-20 cm) inflorescences.
