Abutilon megapotamicum

Abutilon megapotamicum is also known as flowering maple or trailing abutilon. It is a shrub which is appreciated for its ornamental hanging red and yellow lantern-like flowers.
A. megapotamicum is one of the hardiest species, being root-hardy down to about 15°F (-10°C) for a short period of time. Leaves and stems will be damaged below 23°F (-5°C) so this plant should be grown outdoors in USDA zones 8 (with some protection for the roots), 9 and warmer.
 
Leaves are bright-green, evergreen to semi-decidious, alternate, sometimes with slight lobes but generaly entire. A. megapotamicum is a shrub with a climbing habit.
From spring to the first frosts, this plant bears ornamental yellow and red hanging flowers. This species is thus sometimes named Chinese lanterns.
