Bouvardia triphylla
 
Bouvardia triphylla is sometimes met under the names B. coccinea, B. splendens or B. ternifolia. This shrub is native to Mexico, and is appreciated for its bright red tubular flowers.
This plant is reported to withstand USDA zones 9 (possibly zones 9a) winters. In colder areas, it should be overwintered in a frost-free environment.
 
Leaves are evergreen, lanceolate, entire, dark green and have pointed tips. They are about 1-1.5 in (2.5-3.75 cm) long.
Flowers are grouped in terminal clusters, are tubular and have 4 lobes at the tip. They appear in summer. Colors vary from pale pink to orange-red.
