Gardenia taitensis
Tahitian gardenia, Tahitian tiaré
 
Gardenia taitensis, sometimes refered as Gardenia tahitensis is also known as Tahitian gardenia or Tahitian tiaré. (Tiaré means flower in Tahitian.) It is the symbol of Tahiti.
 
Leaves are evergreen, oposite and can be up to 6 in (15 cm) long and 3 in (7.5 cm) wide. They are glossy dark-green on the upper side, and light-green on the underside.
This plant have white flowers with a most heavenly scent, which is like no other. Flowers have 5 to 8 petals and are sterile.

This plant likes rich, well-drained and moist soils.
Note - This plant is not an easy grower, and requires a lot of skills and care when grown outside the tropical zones.
