Description

General aspect and origins - Eryngium foetidum is also known as Mexican coriander, fitweed or long coriander. It is a biennal plant that can reach up to 1-1.5 ft (30-45 cm) tall. Leaves are dried and used as a culinary herb in South-East Asia and other parts of the world. Roots and leaves are also sometimes used in tea.
Leaves - Leaves are serrated, oblanceolate, 8-12 in (20-30 cm) long x 1.5-2 in (4-5 cm) wide.
Flowers - During the summer, this plant bears small white-cream to white-green flowers that are grouped in compact spikes.

Culture

This plant is interesting in warm areas where the true coriander (Coriandrum sativum) won't properly grow because of the heat. Moreover, the dry leaves of Eryngium foetidum keep well their colour and aroma.
Soil - This plant is often grown in moist and heavy soils. However, it also likes moist and well-drained soils.

This plant is propagated by seeds.
