Description

General aspect and origins - Podranea ricasoliana (Tanfani) T. Sprague, 1904, is a vine which is native to Southern Africa (Zimbabwe, South Africa). It has an evergreen foliage and pinnate leaves. Its flowers, which are pink with red veins, are very ornamental.
Leaves - This vine has a glossy green foliage, with pinnate leaves that have 5 to 11 opposite leaflets. In temperate climates, this vine has semi-decidious to decidious leaves.
Flowers - The pink trumpet vine has terminal inflorescences, with numerous trumpet-shaped flowers, which are pink with red veins. Flowers are about 1.5-2.5 in (4-6 cm). This vine usually blooms in mid-summer and early fall.

Culture

The pink trumpet vine can be grown under glass or outdoors in mild climates (USDA zones 9a and warmer).
Soil - Podranea ricasoliana likes fertile and well-drained grounds that remain fairly moist. Once established, it can withstand occasional droughts.

Propagation

This vine can be propagated by seeds, cuttings and air-layers. It can be sown in spring. Cuttings should be prepared in summer, with semi-ripe wood, and air-layers can be tried in spring.
The seeds of the pink trumpet vine are grouped into seedpods, similar to that of other trumpet vines.
