Passiflora 'Purple Haze' (the Passifloraceae familly)

Description

General aspect and origins - Passiflora 'Purple Haze' is a cross between P. caerulea and P. amethystina, obtained by Cor Laurens. This is a showing hybrid, that is both ornamental and relatively frost hardy. Certainly one of the most worthy P. caerulea hybrids.
Flowers - 'Purple Haze' has large showy and pale purple flowers with a dark purple center, and a white and purple corolla. 'Purple Haze' has relatively large and fragrant flowers.
Fruits - Fruits of 'Purple Haze' are similar to that of Passiflora caerulea.

Culture

'Purple Haze' is one of the best P. caerulea hybrids to grow, and is relatively frost hardy. It will withstand cold temperatures down to 18-23°F (-5°C to -8°C) depending on the conditions. It thus can be grown in USDA zones 9 and warmer, and can even be tried in most sheltered places of zones 8b.
Soil - As most passionflowers, Passiflora 'Purple Haze' needs a well-drained ground, and a sunny exposure. Its growth conditions a similar to that of the blue passionflower, Passiflora caerulea.

Propagation

This passionflower can be propagated by cuttings or air-layers. Cuttings are relatively easy to perform, from spring to early fall.
