Trachelospermum asiaticum is also known as yellow star jasmine or dwarf jasmine. It is native to Southeastern Asia and is a close relative to the star jasmine, Trachelospermum jasminoides, with some obvious common features. Flowers may be less ornamental than those of the star jasmine, but they are as fragrant.
This evergreen vine can be grown as a climbing plant, or as a groundcover.
This vine is not only ornamental (with an evergreen foliage and scented flowers), but is also fairly frost-hardy. It will withstand cold temperatures down to about 10-15°F (-10/-12°C) and even lower sometimes. It thus can be grown in USDA zones 8 and warmer, and can be tried in sheltered places of zone 7.
Leaves are evergreen and opposite. They are smaller than that of Trachelospermum jasminoides, hence the name given to Trachelospermum asiaticum : small leaf confederate jasmine.
Trachelospermum jasminoides has fragrant white-cream to yellow cream flowers, that look like jasmine.
