Fatsia japonica, also known as Japanese aralia or fatsia, is a shrub with an evergreen and ornamental foliage, that is native to Japan. It can grow up to about 13 ft. (4 m)
The Japanese aralia is hardier than what it tropical appearance suggests. In fact, this shrub can withstand brief negative temperatures down to 18°F to 14°F. (-8°C to -10°C)
 
Leaves of the Japanese aralia are evergreen, dark-green and deeply lobed. They are ornamental, and can be up to 12 in (30 cm) wide.
Inflorescences of the Japanese aralia appear in autumn. Flowers are globose and creamy-white, and are grouped in clusters.
The Japanese aralia has small, inedible black fruits.
