Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, also known as Chinese hibiscus or rose of China, is an evergreen shrub of the Malvaceae familly. It is native to southeastern Asia, and can reach 15 ft (5 m) in tropical areas. There are many varieties and cultivars, with more modest dimensions, and multicolored wide flowers.
The Chinese hibiscus is a tropical shrub that can be grown in subtropical areas. It may withstand slightly negative temperatures of 28°F-30°F (-1°C to -2°C) for brief periods. But even then, foliage is likely to be damaged.
