Acacia farnesiana, named cassie, huisache or sweet acacia, is a deciduous acacia, which is probably native to tropical America, and cultivated in many warm places in the world, including Africa and Australia. This tree reaches 8 m to 10 m, and has scented flowers in axillary pedunculate heads, which look like yellow puffballs.
Cassie is drought tolerant, but not very frost hardy. It may whistand slight frosts, with an estimated hardiness of 25°F. Note that this tree has spines and should be handled or pruned with care.
The cassie has twice pinnate deciduous leaves. Each glabrous leaflet can reach 7 mm long and 1.5 mm wide.
Cassie flowers are pedunculate golden yellow scented heads.
