Hi Lazlo,
I didn't try it myself, but I think that E. japonica is often grafted on some Crataegus species, or quinces (Cydonia sp.)
As a result, the tree is said smaller and more frost-hardy (this last feature should please you, in Slovakia ;-))

In referring to this french website specializes in grafting
( http://www.greffer.net/?p=225 )
, eriobotrya japonica rootstocks are :

- crataegus (monogyna or oxyacantha)
- quince (cydonia oblonga)
- pyracantha
- eriobotrya japonica seedlings

Hi
I wonder whether such a graft increases the risks for fire blight. After all, loquat is midly susceptible to fire blight by default. With Crataegus ou Pyracantha rootstock, this risk may well increase.
Just my $0.2, however. Hope you can successfully graft your loquats.
