 Hello,
I have planted several papaya seeds indoors, and they have sprouted in a few weeks.
I have no high hopes about growing them outdoors, but just in case : do papaya have a chance to survive low 20's winters? (I think we had 20°F a few years ago. Winter temperatures usually drop to 22°F-25°F, however)

Hello Kurt,
I thought that papayas were strictly tropical trees. But if these are proven a little frost hardy, I will also try one! I live in zone 9, possibly zone 9b, which is 25°F min temp I think. | |

Hi everybody,
At 20°F, I would definitely forget about papayas!
I have heard about mountain papayas, which are said to be frost hardy to about 26°F if I remember. Papayas are hardy to about 28°F, I think. So in zone 9a, I would take my seedlings indoors for winter, if I were you... | |

Hi all,
Thanks for the answers and the advice, I'll take my young papayas indoors this winter (If I can keep some till winter, as half of the seedlings already wilted and died  ) .
